"Turncoat Afghan soldier kills 3 British troopers"

That's the AP headline on Yahoo news at the moment. Hard. to. take. sometimes. So he's not a turncoat when he fights and kills for the US/UK occupation and its Karzai puppet, who was allowed to steal the last national election, but he is a turncoat when he joins the fighting majority trying to kick out the foreigners occupying a country, his country, for the fun and profit of those foreigners' corporations and politicians?

But the UK Guardian gets it worse:

Renegade Afghan kills three British soldiers
[subhead:] Murder of troops inside Helmand patrol base deals severe blow to government's Afghanistan exit strategy

Okay, yeah, I get it, 'renegade', so you can get in this connotation from dictionary.com:

-adjective
3. of or like a renegade; traitorous.

And murder? . . .

How deep into propaganda do you need to be to call 'the other guys' murderers and your own side heroes and warriors? I didn't think that degree of delusion had reached Britain's Guardian, but there it is.

And how do the killings deal a "severe blow to government's Afghanistan exit strategy"?

You mean the British government didn't know that a great percentage of the native troops the US and UK have hired want the patriotic resistance, I mean the Taliban, to win, and almost all are just trying to stay alive and collect paychecks (and weapons)? Doesn't this incident provide a boost, actually, to the real exit strategy, which is based on the fact that things are going to hell, all plans to crush the resistance have failed, so it's time to just leave?

At least the New York Times tells it straight:

Afghan Soldier Kills 3 British Soldiers

No editorializing, just another three ugly and meaningless deaths.

How badly do we dislike that hard truth? Not nearly enough, from what I see of a listless and barely antiwar movement.

Golly! (10.00 / 1)
Ya think they should be grateful they are an occupied country! I mean, who doesn't want foreigners drone bombing them, and taking out collateral damage, I mean whole families killed with "suspected" member of resistance?

Turncoats, traitors! How dare they put their families, villages, counties, states, countries in front of colonial interests???

The fucking propaganda is so thick, so obviould you need a backhoe, not a knife to cut it these days.

Great reporting... in a day when the only story is the LACK of real free press reporting.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Is it the summer heat?  Poor nutrition?  The impressive array of summer movies?

What would you have them do?

Come out in opposition to a Democratic president while the Democrats are in danger of losing their House majority?

There's the bind.  There's the source of the paralysis.  Until the entire relationship with the Democratic Party is reworked, nothing is going to change.

An observation:  For quite a while now, we have heard numerous complaints about the war in Afghanistan, killing civilians, bankrupting the U.S., disgracing our nation in the eyes of the world, ho hum.  But not a clear or broad position in support of U.S. out now!  Such a position is finally BEGINNING to emerge, however.  Why now?  Because a significant segment of the establishment is coming to realize the folly of our Afghanistan adventure.  Now the left has something to tail after.

That's how it works these days.

It's not working. (10.00 / 2)
Yes, a significant portion of the PTB are turned off to this particular bloody adventure. But a probably bigger portion of the PTB wants to continue it, cuz some bloody wars or wtf justify the existence of the military-industrial complex. You just can't have peace, and at least we don't have that in Af-Pak. So don't put your peace hopes in the U.S. PTB, is what I'm saying/predicting. Perma-war is part of the deal with them.

But, anyway, yer right and the key for those who actually prioritize peace over the fortunes of mainstream politicians is to break with the Democratic Party. Everyone should've realized that since (at least) early 2007, when Americans voted 'out now', brought in an overwhelming # of Dems into Congress, and nothing happened.

My point was that progressives need a segment of the establishment to grant them legitimacy before they can move, they cannot do so on their own.

During the healthcare fight, OpenLeft people were quite explicit that there was no point in supporting anything that did not have at least one senatorial sponsor.
