One can extend Krassner's idea...a metaphor, an artistic take on on the "First this happened, then that happened, and then, etc." media bullshit ...just as far as you wish to do so.

The end result?

Against all possible sane imagining, human beings have survived nearly unimaginably  disastrous post-1945 nuclear and ecological possibilities while still evolving at an extraordinary rate.

It's a race between the Chicken Littles and the O Ye Of Little Faith folks.

So far? It's the O Ye Of Little Faith faction that is winning.

I had a mass media epiphany many years ago, Diane. (0.00 / 0)

On a downtown NYC bus, headed for a gig at the Village Vanguard. I was early so I took the slow route. And it was slow indeed. traffic. A little bored, I saw a Time mag lying on the seat next to me. I idly opened it, skimming the main stories...Israel and the Arabs, oil companies ripping people off, celebs acting like assholes, pols acting like pols, the disease of the year, etc. The usual.

The same stories over and over and over again.

Until I got to a car ad and realized that the issue was about 4 years old.

The same stories really were repeating over and over and over again. Same stories, slightly different cast of characters and details.

Hmmmmm...
